Arc Welding Rods



What is the meaning of no. “7014″ printed on arc-Welding rods used in Shielded Metal Arc Welding Process?

I just want to know about that because my instructor asked me to inspect everyting that was printed on the welding rods and find the meaning of those printed numbers.

This American Welding Society nomenclature to describe the type and certain characteristics of the rods.

the 70 means the yielding tensile strength to 70,000 lbs/sq inch.

the third number 701, means the position, it can be used horizontal and vertically.

The 3rd number TOGETHER With the last number is the family. In the case it is a cellulose electrode of high penetration. Typical of those used in pipelines
